Madeline is doing better today. She isn't needing as much pain medication. She has taken a few walks...which is always a good sign! Her blood levels are stable except for a low blood count. This can be expected since Madeline is anemic and suffering from pancreatitis. Trying to keep calm and chive on!

Madeline was admitted yesterday for pancreatitis. Her blood levels are pretty stable so we are concentrating on pain management at this time. She is in good spirits despite lack of sleep and being uncomfortable. It looks like we will have to reschedule our spring break plans! We are missing Dad who happens to be in Mexico for work. We are very happy he returns tonight!! Yay!!! We will continue to update on Madeline's progress!

Madeline has finally broke her fever today! The antibiotic that we needed to give her caused a serious reaction that kept us up most of the night last night. She was itchy and and her face began to to swell. It was pretty scary. But the antibiotic knocked out the 103 degree fever that was lingering. She has also started to take some of her formula today and got some nutrition. We are limited to what we can do with Madeline due to her kidney disease she suffers from. There are many medications we have to avoid. So today has been a sleepy non active day and a recovery day after last night.
We got visitors today from one of Madeline's very best friends! Brooke, her mom Emily and her brother Corey came also! They brought all kinds of goodies for Madeline. Thank you Yarish family!!

Today is day 6 of Madeline's hospital stay. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis with high liapase levels. Her levels are now back to normal but she is fighting off some left over pain from the pancreatitis. On top of that she has developed a 103 fever today that we are trying to manage. They have drawn blood and are doing a few cultures to figure out where the fever is coming from. Madeline, as always, continues to be positive and an amazing fighter.
Children's provided a "Costume Shop" for kids to pick out a costume. Madeline has picked Bat Woman! Can't wait to see her dressed in it! I will post some pics soon. More health updates to come.

Visits

Madeline has no changes today. She is still in some pain and has her pain medication button...
She is tolerating some feeds which is really good!
We want to say thank you to Madeline's girl scout troop for the balloons and craft activities! They were great! Also, thank you to Liz and Eric for the flowers and visit, and to Bunny, Eric, Gage, and Josh for the flowers and card.
We have lots of love and support!
Here are some pictures of Madeline holding her card and playing with one of her craft activities.

We are on the right track with Madeline...her pancreas enzymes are back in the normal range. But even after that happens the pancreas hurts for a few days, so she still needs pain medication and fluids to get through this stage. She is getting morphine to deal with the pain.
Even through all this, she is showing a sense of humor...after pushing her button (which administers morphine), she held it up to her mouth and says, "Coming right up, Captain!"
As usual Madeline is showing us strength, courage, and is an inspiration to everyone. She is one tough cookie.
Here is a picture of Madeline visiting with a dog they bring by as a type of therapy for the kids.

Madeline admitted with Tummy pains
Madeline was admitted into Children's hospital Thursday with stomach pains. Her enzyme levels show she may be suffering from pancreatitis. All her other blood work looked normal for now. She is in good spirits as Maddie always is : )
We will continue to update her progress in the next coming days.

Madeline doing great!
Madeline has been doing very well lately!
She is getting two days a week of homebound school and is even making 100s on her spelling tests! She has a new teacher named Tonya that works hard to give Madeline a good education. We have great people in Madeline's life.
She is growing and gaining weight. Madeline continues to take epotin shots three times a week which she gives to herself. She also still takes internal and night feeding regularly to keep her health on track. At her most recent nephrology check up, we got the news that her kidneys are working around 39%...so we will need to continue to keep an eye of them and how they are functioning.
Madeline recently went to the Trophy Club Fire Station for a tour...here is a picture from that trip!!

Great Day!
Madeline is doing great and could possibly be coming home tomorrow! Her blood levels are back to normal and her pain levels have decreased greatly. She didn't need any pain medication at all today. She even ate some tomato soup. She has been enjoying the Wii and taking walks now and then.
I told Ryder his sister may come home soon, and he has been dancing around the house ever since. It will be good for everybody to get her home!
I will update tomorrow again.

Madeline has had slow progress the last couple days...she is still having some tummy pain and not eating. We have managed to take a few walks, and get a few pictures with a smile or two...
Thanks to everyone who has visited! We are so thankful for your love and support.
She is in good spirits still and remains to be one tough little girl.
Happy Mother's Day!!
I'm one lucky mom!

Pretty Good Day

Madeline is better today. Her pain medicine has been decreased and she is needing less of it. Her labs look great.
Her stomach seems bloated and so we hope her digestion speeds up and starts moving so her pain and pancreatitis can go away...
Once this happens and she begins to eat...we can go home hopefully : )

Great News!
Madeline's labs are finally getting back to normal. She played the Wii a little and even took a walk!! Her bicarb is up to a 20.
Once her pain goes away completely, hopefully she will start eating!
We love our Maddie for being the tough trooper she is.
We are also thankful for the love and support given by out friends and family.

Good morning! Hopefully today will be a better day for our Madeline.
Yesterday was difficult. Trey and I noticed Madeline was not looking good and breathing heavily...so we requested more blood draws, only to find out Madeline's bicarb had dropped to a 12. She was acidontic at this point. So i called the metabolic doctor on call to come to our room...because i wasn't about to mess around with these low levels. Madeline could barely keep her eyes open due to the lethargy she was feeling from her acidontic state. We had doctors and nurses running around changing fluids and giving her meds to try and raise these levels. I hate to think about what would have happened had we not requested these blood draws. ALWAYS go on your instinct as a parent. Never doubt it!
This morning, Madeline's bicarb is at 18. Much better than before. She seems to be in less pain than yesterday. We are hoping to get her bicarb in the 20's and be on our way to a recovery.
Thanks for all your support and love!

Tuesday
Madeline is about the same today...we are starting some light feeds to try and speed up her recovery. She is still fighting some pain. She has been vomiting some, so we are trying to decide whether to stop the feeds overall for a bit. We are watching her bicarb levels, which took a little dip overnight. They went from a 23 to a 19. It is important to keep these bicarb levels up to reduce the risk of acidosis. The fight continues....
On another note, we are in a nice new room, with a great view of Dallas. Our doctors and nurses have been wonderful, which always makes a difference during our stay here at Children's.
